Is the credit earned in the precalculus or calculus program only transferable to NCC or SUNY schools?
No, NCC credit is transferable to virtually all colleges and universities in the United States that teach a precalculus course for credit. Schools such a Cal Tech, Harvard, MIT and the like do not offer precalculus.
However, there are some schools that do not accept any college credit from high school students. We know that many parochial colleges, the University of Rochester, and Columbia are among this group.
Is
there an AP exam in precalculus?
No, there is no Advanced Placement course in precalculus.
What
is the difference between advanced placement and college credit?
Advanced placement credit was created to allow students to begin their studies at a higher level than usual. It did not reduce the number of credits necessary for graduation. To some extent, this has changed and some schools now reduce the number of credits necessary for graduation College credit always reduces the number of credits necessary for graduation.
What
happens if a student participates in the NCC Partnership Program in precalculus
and decides to take AP calculus rather than NCC Partnership calculus?
The latest statistics show that students who followed this route did extremely well: 94% received a three or better, and 2/3 of the students received a five.
What
are the differences between NCC calculus and AP calculus?
Both courses essentially cover the same topics.
Advanced Placement credit is based on one three-hour test. Most schools accept AP credit if the student receives a four or a five. Many give credit for a three.
NCC (SUNY) credit is based on an entire year’s work, using 4 NCC exams and the student’s high school teacher’s evaluation.
