CATALOG DESCRIPTION

This course introduces the role of computers and data processing in the business environment.  Topics include:  essential business computer concepts, computer hardware/software, modern business computer systems, the Internet, data communications, networking, and systems analysis and design.  An introduction to DOS and Windows is covered.  Electronic spreadsheets are used to emphasize business analysis and decision–making using computers.  This course is primarily for business majors.  Computer Information Systems or Computer Science majors will not receive credit for this course.  Laboratory fee applies.

COMPUTER CENTER REQUIREMENT

Students should avail themselves of further study and/or educational assistance available in the Computer Learning Centers located in rooms B-225 and B-116 as part of this course.  These services are to be considered an integral part of the course work and will help the student master the necessary knowledge and skills for Computers in Business.

Attendance

Class attendance is MANDATORY. If for some reason you miss a class, it is the student’s responsibility to get in touch with the instructor. You are responsible for getting any notes and/or assignments of work that you may have missed.

Makeups

There will be NO makeups of quizzes or exams given. A grade of zero will be given for any quiz or exam missed. If an unforseen emergency arises, it is your responsibility for contacting me. If a project is due, and you are unable to bring it to class, then the project can be faxed or emailed to the instructor. DO NOT assume that the assignment has been received. You are responsible for contacting me to verify that the project/assignment has been received. Any project handed in after the due date is subject to a grade of zero.

Withdrawal

A grade of W will not be given out past the official withdrawal date of March 31, 2008.

Cheating

Cheating or plagiarizing of any type will not be tolerated. A grade of zero will be given for that exam, quiz or project.
