MAT 102 - STATISTICS - COURSE INFORMATION

TEXTBOOK: INTRODUCTION TO STATISTICS (eighth edition) by DeSANTO & TOTORO (Pearson Publishing)

COURSE OUTLINE:    A separate course outline will be handed out containing all the homework assignments for chapters 1 through 14.  You will be responsible for ALL CHAPTERS COVERED IN CLASS.

CALCULATOR: YOU ARE EXPECTED TO PURCHASE a TI-83+ or TI-84+ GRAPHING CALCULATOR.

EXAMS:

            THERE ARE NO MAKEUPS.

          NO GRADES ARE CURVED OR DROPPED.

          NO SHARING OF CALCULATORS WILL BE PERMITTED FOR EXAMS.

            There will be 4 EXAMS & a STATISTICS PROJECT. The 4 exams will consist of three unit exams and a comprehensive final exam. The statistics project will be equivalent to an EXAM. ALL WORK ON THE PROJECT MUST BE YOUR OWN.  YOU CANNOT CONSULT WITH ANYONE WHEN WORKING ON THE PROJECT since it will be graded.

ABSENCES & LATENESS:

            NO CREDIT IS GIVEN FOR ATTENDING CLASS - ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY.

If you are absent, YOU are responsible for any MISSED material. AFTER 3 ABSENCES, your FINAL GRADE will be lowered per absence. IF YOU ARE ABSENT MORE THAN 5 TIMES, YOU WILL BE GIVEN a grade of F. If you arrive LATE to class, you will be marked absent.

HELP:

            In addition to my office hours, the Math Center in B130 provides help for this class. The hours are posted on the door of the Math Center. If you are having problems, get help immediately. DON'T WAIT UNTIL A TEST IS ANNOUNCED - it may be too late.

*      DO YOUR HOMEWORK EVERY NIGHT

*     FORM A STUDY GROUP AND LEARN TOGETHER

*     ATTEND ALL THE LAB HELP SESSIONS

*     GET HELP AS SOON AS YOU NEED IT!

*     DON'T FALL BEHIND!

*     DON'T GET DISCOURAGED - YOU CAN DO IT!

*     "STATISTICS IS NOT A SPECTATOR SPORT, YOU MUST DO IT TO LEARN IT!"

WITHDRAWAL POLICY:

            To receive an automatic grade of W, you must officially withdraw by: Monday, March31st.  Failure to attend class doesn't constitute a withdrawal from class - you must still officially withdraw! 

 

 CALENDAR:

Please note: Wednesday, February 20th Day & Evening Classes follow a MONDAY schedule and Tuesday, April 22nd Day classes follow a Monday Schedule.  We do not meet on Monday, Feb. 18, Monday, March 24th & Wednesday, March 26th, and Monday, April 21st.  Our last day is Wednesday, May 14th.
