The Math Success Center is located in B109 and offers help in a variety of ways. Walk-in help, individual and group tutoring, assistance with improving study skills, homework help, and assistance with math and test anxiety are available. The Math Center located in B130 offers walk-in help and assistance with homework and will be open at times when the Math Success Center is not. You should visit the Math Success Center and the Math Center to obtain brochures that lists their services and their hours of operation. Use of the resources provided in the learning centers will help you master necessary knowledge and skills. NOTE: In order to use the learning centers you must present a valid NCC identification card.

Extra Help:
A complete learning package accompanies your text.  Among the helpful supplements you should investigate are:

1.      Videotapes

2.      Tutorial software

3.      Complete solutions manual

Tests:
The purpose of all quizzes/tests is to prepare you for the final exam.  The final exam is a computerized exam given at the end of the semester.  There are no make-ups for the quizzes/tests.

·         A diagnostic pretest is given at the beginning of the course.

·         Quizzes are given frequently to provide consistent feedback.

·         Tests are given at the end of each chapter.

Grade:
The grades are S (satisfactory) or U (unsatisfactory).  To obtain an S you must:

  1. Attend class
  2. Pass the final exam

You may take the final exam based on your attendance record as outlined below:

Criteria                                                                        # of times you may take the final exam

0 - 6 absences                                                                                      2

More than 6 absences                                                                          0 (grade is a U)

Arriving late or leaving early counts as half an absence.

Withdrawal:
Note that a W and a U carry the same weight, and any combination of three U’s and W’s in this course will result in dismissal from NCC.  A grade of W is given only to students who officially withdraw from all of your courses during the automatic W period.

Students with Disabilities:
If you have - or suspect you have – a physical, psychological, medical, or learning disability that may have an impact on your ability to carry out the assigned coursework, I urge you to contact the staff at the Center for Students with Disabilities (CSD), Bldg. U, 572-7241, TTY 572-7617. The counselors at CSD will review your concerns and determine with you what accommodations are necessary and appropriate. All information and documentation will be kept confidential. I encourage students with disabilities to discuss accommodations with me.
