Description:
The course covers whole numbers and rational numbers; fundamental operations
with whole numbers, fractions and decimals; ratio and proportion; percent;
basic algebra; consumer and job-related problems.

Materials Needed:
Students must bring a scientific calculator to class and for exams. The TI-30XS MultiView is recommended.
The Math Learning Centers: located in B109 and B130 offer help in a variety of
ways for this course. You should visit
the math centers to obtain a brochure that lists their services and then take
advantage of these services as needed. You will find the services provided in
B109 especially designed for students who are enrolled in preparatory
mathematics courses. NOTE: In order to use the Learning Centers you must
present a valid NCC identification card.

A complete learning package accompanies your
text. Among the helpful supplements you
should investigate are:

Tests:
The purpose of all quizzes/tests is to prepare you for the final exam. The final exam is a computerized exam given
at the end of the semester. There are no
make-ups for the quizzes/tests.
· A diagnostic pretest is given at the beginning of the course.
· Daily quizzes are given to provide consistent feedback.
· Tests are given at the end of each chapter.
Grade:
The grades are S (satisfactory) or U (unsatisfactory). To obtain an S you must:

Arriving late or leaving early counts as half an absence.
Withdrawal:
Note that a W and a U carry the same weight, and
any combination of three U’s and W’s in this course will result in
dismissal from NCC. A grade of W is
given only to students who officially withdraw from all of your
courses during the automatic W period.
